edalia
Seligman, son of Avram Shlomo and grandson of
Moishe,
owned a farm on the outskirts of Bobruisk and ran a
horse and carriage service. His grandson
Abraham used to post himself at the
Bobruisk railroad station to flag down passengers, and
practiced the clarinet in his grandfather's orchard.
Gedalia was listed in the 1906 and 1912 Bobruisk Duma
voter lists. He was also named in 1911, together
with his brother Shepsel, on a list of persons
entitled to participate in the election of the rabbi of
Bobruisk's "Staro-Plotnicheskaya" school. He
was recorded as being 70 years old, and it was noted he had
been a member of a religious community for 40
years.
When
Gedalia's
son
Israel died at about 40,
Israel's wife left
her sons
Abraham and
Nathan (her daughters had
reached adulthood) in the care of their grandfather Gedalia and his
wife, whose name is unknown, but who is pictured
with him at right. |
